SEA FEST ’18
Wow!!! What is Ireland like in this weather!!! How will we ever return to normal! We are just loving life right now, right! And there is more amazing stuff in store this weekend in Galway City, so the happy vibes are set to continue!
Sea Fest is back! In Galway we absolutely love celebrating our strong connection with the sea.It’s no surprise that Sea Fest, based at Galway harbour is quickly earning its place with the top annual festivals in Galway, the capital of Culture 2020. Just to #keepitSWUITE we have summed up the best things to do this weekend in Galway, Participate in the water, Spectate on dry land and Learn all things Marine! Participate in the water
So Irish Sailing is taking people out on the water! Ever fancied yourself as a sailor? Well your in luck and here’s your chance to be part of the crew and feel the breeze and thrill of sailing on board a skippered Keelboat on Galway Bay ! Book fast though as I am sure in this fine weather everyone is thinking the same thing! Book here!
Also as part of Sea Fest you can head out Kayaking in the harbour with Kayakmór, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 7pm, with sessions taking place every hour. Same rules apply…Book Fast and don’t say we didn’t warn you!
All participants are provided with a buoyancy aid and a waterproof. Bring a towel, sun hat and sun cream lotion. For those who like to make a splash, a change of clothes may be a good idea! (www.seafest.ie)
Spectate
There will be a fantastic opportunity to see the thrilling sport of kite-surfing via a spectacle taking place on Saturday Afternoon, weather dependant of course…tho today as I write this I cannot imagine it every raining again! Who you say? World-Record Kite Surfer Francisco Lufinha will kitesurf. Lufinha will take off from the Aran Islands and i am sure there will be plenty of sightings and updates as to her ETA! Francisco holds the world record for the Longest Journey Kitesurfing without stops, she covered 874 km of the Portuguese Sea during 48 hours. Impressive! We can’t wait!
Another thing we can’t wait to see is the Search and Rescue (SAR) demonstration from the Irish Coast Guard. This event will take place again in Galway Harbour on Saturday. This is one for all ages we think and it will be such an eye opener to see how the Irish Coast Guard and volunteers respond to emergencies at sea!
This event is probably the most spectacular in the true sense of the word! Have you ever wanted to put a pump-powered jet pack on your back, only to fly high into the air to flip around above the sea doing somersaults and dance moves? Expect to be captivated by the stunning performances from PowerFly Products world-class flyboarders again down at the Sea Fest home this weekend, Galway Harbour.
Learn
Seafood for all
Learn everything there is to know about seafood at the Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) and Bord Bia Seafood Experience. There will be everything here to see, maybe eat and certainly learn about here! Engaging exhibits and virtual reality (VR) displays will explain how Irish seafood is sustainably caught and farmed. This will be the perfect make no plans just troll down for a look type of event! #keepitSWUITE right!
Love seafood? Well wait for it….some of the best known Irish chefs will be there putting on live cookery demonstrations. Galway restaurateur JP McMahon, Michael O’Meara of Oscar’s Seafood Bistro in Galway and author of the top-selling Sea Gastronomy and Oliver Dunne, the youngest Irish chef to be awarded a Michelin star. We are in for a treat! But that’s not all….you can also catch up with BIM’s best young fishmongers, Anne Stephens,George Stephens and Scott Smullen will teach you how to prepare your fish at home. Perfect to try in you SWUITE Aparthotel, self catering studios right here in the heart of Galway!
The Summit…no festival is complete without one!
For the avid learners and those interested in the local Marine World this is the event for you! The programme will focus on Ireland’s multi-billion euro marine economy, discussing the impact of Brexit, smart shipping, sea and airfreight logistics and Ireland’s seafood sector, marine renewables, marine research, maritime commerce, financial planning for the marine, climate change and more. My head is spinning but I know there are loads of you out there that will adore and soak up the info and amazing speakers…find more info here!
