Established in 1925, McCambridge’s of Galway is a family owned Restaurant, deli and fine foods shop located in the heart of the city centre. Asian Tea House Restaurant
Decorated with Pan-Asian motifs, rattan seats and bamboo lampshades, this seductively lit restaurant is a delight from start to finish. Dishes, well-executed and full of MSG-free flavour, range from Malaysian to Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese. The tom yam soup is on the money and so is the silken tofu. Tea choices abound and staff are most welcoming.
Aniar
Deeply committed to the flavours and food producers of Galway and West Ireland, the name Aniar was used to describe the way in which the food comes from the specific place that is Galway and the West of Ireland through landscape, farms, wildlands and shores that surround the county, Aniar wears its Michelin star with pride. There’s no fuss, however. The casual spring-green dining area is a relaxed place to taste from the nightly, daily-changing menu. The wine list favours small producers.
Sheridans Cheesemongers
Sheridans Cheesemongers is aromatic with the superb local and international cheeses and other deli items within, many from the Mediterranean. Its real secret, however, is up a narrow flight of stairs. Sample from a huge wine list (the emphasis is on Italian wines) in an airy room while enjoying many of the best items from below. It is located on St Nicholas’s Square in the centre of the city, you can sit in a quiet cosy space with a glass of wine and simple plate of cheeses or cured meats and enjoy the beautiful view. A visit to Sheridans on a Saturday is a real insight into a vibrant Galway and to how food has been traded in the city for hundreds of years.
Kirwan’s Lane Restaurant
This restaurant is located on the historical Kirwan’s Lane which still exhibits a strong presence of 16th and 17th century architecture. It is the ideal restaurant for a casual lunch or dinner. It offers modern Irish food prepared with fresh local produce. Seafood is a speciality but there is plenty of choice from meat to vegetarian dishes. Some nights you might even have the chance to dine whilst enjoying live Jazz and blues music, played on the piano on the 2nd floor.
Kai Café
This fantastic cafe on happening Sea Rd is a delight, whether for a coffee, portions of West Coast Crab or Roscommon hogget and glasses of Galway Hooker in a relaxed, casual, wholesome and rustic dining environment. Great at any time of the day, but reserve for din-dins. The philosophy at Kai Café is very simple, fresh, organic produce is sourced from local suppliers to create daily menus bursting with flavour, texture and colour.
Oscars Seafood Bistro
Oscar’s Seafood Bistro is located in the historic West-side of Galway City which is also known as the cultural quarter by the local population. Cakes in all sizes are supreme at Goya’s, a Galway treasure hidden on a small square. Its fine coffee and sweet treats make it a perfect pause. The deli does a booming lunch trade; enjoy a sandwich at a table outside.
The Lighthouse Cafe is a small, independent vegetarian cafe in Galway city.
