There is something to be said about these cold winter days in the lead up to Christmas, although we may dread that initial thought of crawling out of our comfy beds and on to the icy streets of Dublin, this cold weather gives us the best excuse to indulge in one of our favourite winter warmers…
HOT CHOCOLATE! ☕😍
These delicious concoctions are the kind of things dreams are made of on these chilly Christmas nights, and we have just the list to make your dreams come true!!!
Hang on to your knickers students because we’ve found an even cheaper way than Ryanair to transport you straight to Paris!! (DISCLAIMER: if you’re from Paris and need to get home, don’t use this as a guide, you’ll end up still in Dublin)
You’ve probably spotted this Instagram worthy place a hundred times and have always wanted to pop in, well now is the time and we’re telling you exactly what to order (CAUTION: visit on an empty stomach); taste their mouth-watering ‘Chocolat chaud Ladurée’ it’s thick and creamy and has more chocolatey goodness than you imagined possible (btw they use actual chocolate from France!!!!).
This alone would fill you up but seeing as you’re already there you can’t leave without trying their macaroons, we suggest you try the vanilla and/or the salted caramel they will melt away in your mouth and you’ll walk away feeling like your taste-buds have won the jackpot! You’re in luck Swuitees, the Luas that stops just around the corner from your student accommodation also stops just around the corner from Ladurée Dublin, so you could say we’re practically in Paris, right?
2. Butler’s Chocolate Café
Are you a lover of the finer things in life? Well then, you’ve come to the right spot! Butler’s oozes luxury and from the second you walk into this golden paradise, you’ll feel like you’re stepping in to the wolf of wall street of coffee shops telling yourself “It’s business. Leave your emotions at the door.” as you march up to the counter and try not to become an emotional wreck because there’s a million different hot chocolates to choose from and you do not have the skill set to narrow it down to just one!
Well, a word from the wise; their cookies and cream hot chocolate will knock your bloody socks off!! Its rich and chocolatey and just when you get that sad feeling that its all gone… ITS NOT, there’s still lots of cookie bits that have fallen to the bottom that you get to scoop out and now you get to eat that too, I know what you students are thinking… that’s 2 for the price of 1!!!! There are multiple Butler’s Cafés around Dublin City but the closest one to your accommodation is on Jervis Street, just a 15-minute walk!
3. The Sweetest Thing
Nope, you don’t need to go to Specsavers, you’re seeing it right… Guinness hot chocolate! The Sweetest Thing (Swuitest to all you students!) deserve serious props for their originality. They experiment with so many different flavours, you couldn’t even imagine the concoctions they come up with and each one is as tasty as the next!! You can try anything from Mint to Orange to Peanut Butter!!! There is something to tickle everyone’s fancy here!
As a fan of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, I’d suggest you go for this one (it comes with a piece of Reese’s on the side!), and if you’re finished college for the day and you’re on your way back to your accommodation,
I suggest you go for the Baileys one, who doesn’t enjoy a sneaky tipple? 😊You’ll find them at 17 Bachelors Walk, North City, Dublin!
If you’re looking for somewhere to kick back and relax during these cold winter evenings you’ve come to the right place! Accents is cosy, homely and probably the best place to sit around and enjoy your hot chocolate either in peace or with friends (it’s the perfect student hangout). This wood-furnished spot offers you a choice between white, milk or dark chocolate and if you’re feeling that bit extra, you’ll order a combo of all three!! 😍
Once you have picked your flavour(s) you will then be given a big mug of hot milk and marshmallows, and so the magic begins as you drop as many chocolate drops in as you see fit… Don’t hold me accountable when you need a filling but I recommend you mix in every last drop and embrace the full chocolatey explosion!Credit has to be given for their artwork on the top of each one also. You won’t be able to miss this spot as you walk down Stephen Street Lower in Dublin 2, the second you see it your mind will spin straight to chocolate… I’ll let you figure out why! 😉
5. Brother Hubbard
Brother Hubbard is renowned across Dublin for their mouth wateringly delicious hot chocolate, so it would be criminal to leave this gem off of the list. The way they serve it up is every chocolate lovers’ fantasy, you have your rich and smooth chocolate sauce to pour into your mug and then you slowly stir in the chocolate milk, yes, I said it CHOCOLATE MILK, this is genius and frankly I don’t know how it hasn’t been thought of before (or maybe it has, I just haven’t heard of it). Adding chocolate to chocolate is exactly how the perfect hot choc should be made!! Although this may sound overwhelmingly heavy it surprisingly goes down so easy, could you imagine anything more exquisite?
But we wouldn’t expect anything less from Brother Hubbard and their perfectly Instagrammable food, the place is like a wonderland for you social media loving students! The great news is there are actually two Brother Hubbard’s you’ll find them both sides of the Liffey at Brother Hubbard (North), 153 Capel St, North City, Dublin and Brother Hubbard (South), 46 Harrington St, Saint Kevin’s, Dublin 8.
And that concludes our list! We hope these scumptious treats keep you warm on your travels from the city to your accommodation in Swuite! 😊
