There is something to be said about these cold winter days in the lead up to Christmas, although we may dread that initial thought of crawling out of our comfy beds and on to the icy streets of Dublin, this cold weather gives us the best excuse to indulge in one of our favourite winter warmers… Hot chocolate.
These delicious concoctions are the kind of things dreams are made of on these chilly Christmas nights, and we have just the list to make your dreams come true.
1. Ladurée
You might have spotted Ladurée before and thought about dropping in; well now is the time. Taste their mouth-watering ‘Chocolat chaud Ladurée’. It’s thick, creamy and has more chocolatey goodness than you imagined possible.
The hot chocolate alone is extremely filling but while you’re there we recommend trying their macaroons. They melt in your mouth and you will not be disappointed, The Luas stops just around the corner from Ladurée, making it easy to plan a visit no matter what the weather is doing!
2. Butler’s Chocolate Café
Butler’s Chocolate Cafe oozes luxury and decadence! There are multiple Butler’s Cafés around Dublin City but the closest one to Swuite is on Jervis Street, just a 15-minute walk away.With many different flavours to choose from and lots of sweet treats we recommend taking your time in here.
3. The Sweetest Thing
The Sweetest Thing have a amazingly original menu. They experiment with many different flavours and each one is as tasty as the next. You can try anything from Mint to Orange to Peanut Butter. There is something to tickle everyone’s fancy here. You’ll find them at 17 Bachelors Walk, D1, a 20 minute walk from Swuite.
4. Accents
If you’re looking for somewhere to kick back and relax during these cold winter evenings Accents in the place to go! Accents is cosy, homely and probably the best place to sit down and enjoy your hot chocolate with friends. This wood-furnished spot offers you a choice between white, milk or dark chocolate and if you’re feeling that bit extra indulgent, you can order a combo of all three.
Once you have picked your flavour you will be given a mug of hot milk with marshmallows on the side. You can then drop as many chocolate drops in as you see fit… Credit has to be given for their artwork on the top of each one also. You won’t be able to miss this spot as you walk down Stephen Street Lower in Dublin 2, the second you see it your mind will spin straight to chocolate… I’ll let you figure out why!
5. Brother Hubbard
Brother Hubbard is renowned across Dublin for their delicious hot chocolate. The way they serve it is unique. You take your rich and smooth chocolate sauce and pour into your mug. You then slowly stir in the chocolate milk on top. This is exactly how the perfect hot chocolate should be made, and you can adjust the consistency and intensity yourself. You’ll find Brother Hubbard at 153 Capel St, Dublin 1, a quick 15 minute walk from Swuite.
